Emily's 9 month session (Missouri children's photographer)

Some of my favorite shots of my son are bath tub photos. I have one framed and big in my bathroom from our old house, we had a big deep claw foot tub, one of my favorite all time shots! So, I was uber excited when my client suggested that we do a "bathtub" session with her little miss. How fun...and unique! Here is a small peek!

Katie and Gabe get married!

I had the absolute honor of being asked, a year ago, to photograph Katie and Gabe's wedding. Katie's sister is a repeat client of mine and Katie loved my work enough to want me to photograph her special day. Such an honor....Thank you to Jennifer Crowe of Cobblestone Photography for being my second shooter that day, I could NOT have done it without you and I will never do another wedding without a second shooter. She helped me so much and relieved so much of my stress. Here is a peek in to Katie's day....

I photographed Hannah's sister last year for her senior photos...had the absolute honor of Hannah coming all the way from Rolla last week for me to photograph her! We clicked artistically instantly, we were like "peas and carrots" :) had so much fun with Hannah and she had her own ideas, which is always a good thing for me. Here is a peek into her session.

Elise was picked as the winner of the free senior session I gave away on Facebook. She is such a sweetheart and a natural, didn't have to direct her at all. ;)

Your camera takes really nice pictures {Missouri Senior and Family Photographer}

This is such an excellent way of putting it. Thank you Erin Farrell of Erin Farrell Photography for writing these words so perfectly.

Imagine that you’re baking dessert for a party.  It’s your special recipe: the one everyone asks for.  You make it from scratch, of course, never looking at the recipe that you committed to memory so long ago.  Sugar, beaten eggs, sift in the flour…  you’re crafting something delicious from basic elements.  Now you’re at the party and everyone is gushing about your dessert.  The flavor!  The texture!  But most of all you’re being asked, “what kind of oven do you have?  It makes great cakes!”

That’s pretty much how a photographer feels when people look at their photos and say, “your camera takes great pictures.”

Of course it’s not the camera that takes great photos, any more than it’s the oven that makes a great dessert.  Ovens and cameras are just tools that make our jobs easier.  Yes, better equipment does make a difference.  I wouldn’t spend thousands of dollars on cameras and lenses if it didn’t.  However, you must understand the camera to take advantage of all it can offer.  Just because you’re using a professional camera does not mean you are producing professional images.

It’s all about what you know: the technicalities of photography.  You have to determine just the right type and direction of light, position your models to take advantage of that light and create a pleasing composition, utilize the correct camera settings (aperture, ISO, etc.) and work with your models to make them feel comfortable.  And that’s just the first half!  After the photo shoot there is still post-processing to be done.
